Renting a motorcycle? Hiring out a motorcycle/moped on holiday can be great fun but it can also be dangerous – just think safe and ride sensibly. You’ll be on unfamiliar roads don’t forget.
If you ride a motorcycle at home hire one similar to the machine you are used to. Make sure that that the bike is okay when renting – check the tyres have sufficient tread and have a good look round for cracked headlights and other signs of damage. If in doubt don’t hire it – there’s plenty of others around. Before setting off adjust what you can on the bike to make riding as comfortable as possible – mirrors, levers and handlebars. And if possible you should also adjust the suspension if riding two up – especially on a smaller bike. Use the correct clothing for biking – flip flops are not that good for changing gear! Always wear a helmet and try to always wear gloves – hands are usually the first point of contact if you are unfortunate enough to fall off. Make sure the helmet fits properly and that the chin-strap secures properly. Motorcycle hire requires a full licence.
