Cabildo urges fast ferry action

The Cablido in La Gomera has made a last ditch plea to the Canarian government to save the ferry service between Los Cristianos and Valle Gran Rey, which is due to be withdrawn on Thursday.

La Gomera - 13.05.2008 - The Garajanoy Express, which calls in at San Sebastian and Playa Santiago also, is being withdrawn because the operator says it cannot survive without public funding. The regional government has agreed to consider funding but only if a tender is organised allowing other ferry companies to bid for the route. On Monday the island's Cabildo urged for a short-term solution to be found before the service stops and criticised the government for being insensitive to the needs of the local population.
