Canary Islands - 14.05.2008 - Former Puerto del Cruz mayor Garcia was appointed after Jose Segura announced he was to stand as an MP in the March elections. However, in a surprise move yesterday Madrid revealed that Carolina Darias, the head of urban planning in Las Palmas City Council, had been chosen to replace him. The official appointment is expected to be made at Friday's meeting of the Spanish cabinet. No reasons have been given for the decision to replace Garcia.
