Puerto de La Cruz - 16.07.2008 - Over a hundred boats of all shapes and sizes made the short trip out to sea to escort the revered image of the Virgin into the town's harbour. The event, which has been held every year since 1921, passed off without incident thanks largely to the extra precautions taken to avoid past cases of overcrowded boats which have capsized due to the excess weight. Canarian President Paulino Rivero was guest of honour at the celebrations, which were led by Puerto's mayor Lola padrón.
