Maintenance worker dies in cement mixer tragedy

A 50-year-old man has been killed in a freak workplace accident after being sucked into a giant cement mixer.

Las Palmas - 18.07.2008 - The man was carrying out routine maintenance work on the equipment when for reasons unknown a conveyor belt was activated and dragged him inside the mixer. The accident occurred in the cement faciility in the city's port and is being investigated by police. Colleagues said yesterday the deceased was highly expericned in the maintenance operations carried out on the mixer and are at a loss to explain how he could have become trapped by the belt.
