Fuerteventura - 22.07.2008 - Hamed Mohamed, 33, told the jury that he had been drinking heavily on the night of 4 May 2006 and had also consumed substantial amounts of cocaine. ‘This would not have happened if I had not been drunk from drinking 17 whiskeys and on drugs’ he confessed on the opening day of the trial in the Criminal Court in Las Palmas. Mr Hobbs' widow has flown to the island for the trial, which continues today with testimony from witnesses and medical experts.
