Canary Islands - 08.08.2008 - However, airline Binter immediately suspended its scheduled flights to the Mauritanian capital and several companies operating there have expressed concern at the measures taken by the new regime, which says it will stay in power as long as is required 'to assert real democracy'. Spain is among the countries to already have condemned the coup. There are an estimated one hundred Canarians living in Mauritania at present according to the authorities.
