Vicepresident josstled by anti-prison protestorsThe vicepresident of the Canaries José Manuel Soria was given a bitter welcome by local residents opposed to the siting of a new giant prison on their doorstep in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

San Bartolomé de Tirajana - 15.08.2008 - A private dinner attended by Soria at a restaurant in Maspalomas was gatecrashed by the protestors who continued their vehement attack on the politician outside in the street. The residents are part of a bigger group that has chained itself to the railings outside council buildings in a bid to stop the Spanish ministry of justice from building the prison near the tourist resort. Several people were arrested a fortnight ago after blocking bulldozers as they began work on the site.
