Las Palmas flight tragedy kills 150 Over 150 passengers have been killed in a plane crash at Madrid airport. The tragedy occurred yesterday lunchtime when a Spanair flight bound for Las Palmas crashed seconds after take-off.

Approximately 20 survivors pulled from the wreckage are said to be critically ill in hospital. Eyewitness say the left engine of the aircraft caught fire as it was taking off, although no official cause has been given by the airline yet. The flight was originally delayed by over an hour due a technical problem. A temporary morgue has been set up at the nearby IFEMA exhibition centre, which was used also for the vicitms of the Madrid train bombings in 2004.
