PM to visit Gran Canaria for funeral

Spain's prime minister is to travel to Gran Canaria at the week-end to attend the funeral service for local victims of the Spanair plane crash.

Gran Canaria - 27.08.2008 - Government sources have confirmed that José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero will arrive on the island on Friday, one day ahead of the official funeral in the Cathedral,in Las Palmas, and will spend the day meeting with the authorities in the towns of origin of the victims. He will also visit the office which has been set up in the Gran Canaria capital to provide assistance to relatives. The presence of members of the Royal Family at the service has not been confirmed yet, despite reports yesterday that several members would attend.
