Mogán - 04.09.2008 - The African migrants on board the cayuco boat are thought to have spent twelve days at sea on a crossing from Mauritania that normally takes just four days. The deceased occupants died from starvation and hypothermia, according to the authorities. Several others are being treated in hospital on the island for serious conditions. Red Cross volunteers said the scene of the bodies lying face down in water in the boat was the most harrowing they had ever experienced.
