Los Cristianos - 05.09.2008 - The Department of Health ordered the closure after high levels of the harmful E. coli bacteria were found in water samples. It is believed the sampling were conducted on Monday on two spots on the beach, which is used by thousands of people, locals and tourists, every day. Arona Council had high hopes that the run-down image of Los Cristianos would be repaired by the recent facelift given both to the beach and the seafront after years of building work in the resort but this latest closure is a major setback.
