Las Palmas - 29.09.2008 - Mariano Rajoy, leader of the Popular Party, flew down from Madrid to close the conference, which saw regional leader José Manuel Soria re-elected by a massive vote, and used the occasion to pay tribute to two PP members from the Canaries who died in the tragedy at the end of August. Rajoy slammed the government's handling of the investigation and said he would do everything to ensure similar errors are not repeated in future.
