5000 pigeons target set

Las Palmas city council has set itself the goal of clearing 5000 pigeons from the streets in an aggresive drive to alleviate the nuisance caused by the birds.

Las Palmas - 30.09.2008 - Teams have been out to twenty spots throughout the capital with traps and cages to snare the pigeons, which the corporation says foul buildings and spread disease and need to be eradicated. Once any ringed pigeons are identified and returned to their owners, the birds will be handed over to the Civil Guard's Nature Protection Unit to be put down.
