Canary Islands - 03.10.2008 - The rise of 4,500 in the number of people out of work was a 2.5% increase on the figure for August, below the national average increase of 3.7%. In response to calls by trade unions and industry for urgent measures to to reform the labour market, Canarian president Paulino Rivero insisted the situation was not as bad as in the rest of the country, although it still gave cause for concern,
