Puerto de la Cruz - 07.10.2008 - Due to begin on Thursday, the conference was called off last night after the organising union, SUP, learned that the 44 officers chosen by their colleagues in stations throughout the islands to represent them would not be given time off. The decision has angered the union, which says it is considering its options after the ban was announced yesterday. Under the law, police officers are not allowed to strike but they can take other forms of protest action.
