German rescued by helicopter on Montaña Roja

An elderly German tourist had to be rescued by helicopter yesterday in Lanzarote after suffering a broken leg while out walking in Montaña Roja.

Lanzarote - 07.10.2008 - The man fell on the western side of the hill during an early morning excursion. Initial attempts to reach him by road proved unsuccessful and a helicopter had to be called in from Playa Blanca a short time later to enable a stretcher and paramedics to be lowered onto the rugged terrain. He was flown to the island's main hospital where he was said to be ina stable condition yesterday evening.
