Flight returns to Gran Canaria after hitch

The spate of incidents involving Spanair flights continued yesterday with another scare for passengers. A flight bound for Madrid developed a technical problem three quarters of an hour after take-off and the pilot opted to return to the airport for a check.

Gran Canaria - 10.10.2008 - News of the problem emerged at almost exactly the same time as Spanish investigators released a preliminary report into the Madrid air crash on 20 August. The early findings show that the pilots were led to believe by a faulty relay that the flaps on the Spanair plane had extended correctly. The plane was in the air for just three seconds before dropping to the ground.
