The date was agreed by both clubs after consultations with the police, who have designated the fixture a high-risk game due to the rivalry between the respective supporters. Playing the game on Sunday morning would have forced the Tenerife fans to stay overnight in Las Palmas, a prospect the police were anxious to avoid.
