Thousands give ARC yachts send off in Las Palmas

Thousands of people turned out yesterday morning in Las Palmas to give a send off to over 200 yachts at the beginning of this year's Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) race.

Las Palmas - 24.11.2008 - 214 yachts of all sizes left port to begin the marathon 5000km journey across the Atlantic. It is expected that the first ones will arrive in Rodney Bay, St Lucia, in around three weeks. 105 of the boats this year are from Britain and the smallest one taking part is the Norwegian-registered Madonna, at just 9.95 metres long.
