Cigarette factory urges government to prevent closure

Workers at one of Tenerife's two cigarette factories have called on Canarian president Paulino Rivero to intervene to prevent the factory from being closed by its owners.

Tenerife - 26.11.2008 - Japan Tobacco International (JTI) says it intends to shut the Tacisa plant and concentrate production in its other one, CITA. The firm filed formal redundancy notice on 24 November which contemplates the loss of all but 43 of the 165 jobs in the factories.
