La Orotava - 01.12.2008 - Over 500 delegates heard veteran politician Isaac Valencia slam the Spanish government for not doing enought to stem the influx of migrants from the coast of Africa. 'We only discover they are on their way when they get to within fifty metres of the coast', which - he said - was at the mercy of the 'moros' (a highly pejorative term used to describe Muslims from North Africa). The remarks led to calls on Canarian president Paulino Rivero to formally rebuke his CC colleague for racism.
