Tenerife - 11.05.2008 - According to media reports, persons close to the Basque club offered Tenerife a 'substantial incentive' to try their hardest against Sporting Gijón at the week-end in order to allow Real to make up ground in the race for the third and final promotion place. However, Gijón proved too hot for the Canarians and ran out easy winners (2-0). The match was marred by fighting between fans of boths sides outside the stadium in Santa Cruz. 6 Tenerife fans were arrested during the fighting. Las Palmas continued their solid run with another away point, this time against Eibar, to move further clear of the danger zone with just five games left.
